8 HOURS APART, STILL US
Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, depending on when you are reading this. As for me, I have just arrived at work, so it is definitely morning on my end. I am seated here, scribbling on a slightly crumpled piece of paper, taking advantage of a slow start to the day. These are the little in between moments I have come to appreciate lately.
Today began quite early, 3:40
a.m., to be exact. My sister was travelling overnight to my place, so I had to
wake up to receive her call when she arrived. Motherhood, work, family… life
has a way of keeping you on your toes.
But let me not drift too far.
Waking up that early got me thinking… how many of us have experienced long distance relationships? And more importantly, how are they going? At the moment, I live about eight hours away from my husband because of work. It’s been four months now, and I can honestly say, it comes with both ups and downs.
Just the other day, out of
nowhere, my husband texted me and asked, “Who do you talk to the most these
days?” To make things a little interesting, I answered, “God.” And truthfully,
it’s not far from reality. Between raising a little one, adjusting to routines,
and navigating this distance, I’ve found myself leaning more into prayer.
Spiritually, I feel like I am growing in a quiet but meaningful way.
But that question stayed with me.
It made me wonder, was he feeling like we don’t talk as much anymore? Was he
missing me? Or maybe… just a little lonely? 😄
Long distance has a way of
revealing things. It stretches you. It teaches patience, trust, and intentional
communication. And at the same time, it makes you miss the simplest things like
shared meals, random conversations, even just sitting in the same room doing
nothing. Still, we keep finding our way through it all.
We may be eight hours apart, but
we are still building, still growing, still learning. Our journey hasn’t been
perfect, but it has been ours, and somehow, things have always worked out in
our favor. He will be travelling to visit soon, and I am really looking forward
to that time together. Not just to catch up, but to reconnect, to laugh, and to
remind ourselves that distance is only temporary. Because in this season of
little steps I am learning that even when we are apart, we are still us
